I have been in clinical practice for 34 years, working in 3 different areas of Canada.

In the past 15 years, I have concentrated on companion animal lameness and pain management employing an integrated approach to patient care. I currently am certified in veterinary acupuncture (IVAS), canine rehabilitation (CRI), animal chiropractic (Options for Animals), and I am a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (IVAPM).

I am actively involved in veterinary association work, having served on the executive boards and various committees of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association, and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.

FASAVA 2025 is honored to present the Dr. Roger Clarke Memorial Lecture in tribute to a pioneering Australian veterinarian whose lifelong commitment to continuing education has left an enduring legacy in the veterinary profession. This year, Dr. Stanley Marks will deliver the memorial lecture, whose meaningful and inspiring presentation will resonate with attendees and honor the spirit of Dr. Clarke’s contributions.

Dr. Stanley Marks graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He completed a small animal internal medicine residency at the University of Florida and an oncology residency at the University of California, Davis. Thereafter, Dr. Marks received his PhD degree in Nutrition from the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology. Dr. Marks is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in the subspecialties of internal medicine, oncology, and nutrition. He is the past President of the Comparative Gastroenterology Society and the Director of the Companion Animal Gastrointestinal Laboratory at UC Davis that focuses on furthering our understanding and knowledge of canine and feline infectious enteropathies. In addition, Dr. Marks has clinical and research interests in deglutology, with an emphasis on canine esophageal motility disorders and gastroesophageal reflux. Dr. Marks has received 10 faculty teaching awards at UC Davis during his career and was honored to be selected the Speaker of the Year at the NAVC Conference and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Convention. In addition, he is the recipient of the 2022 AVMA Career Achievement in Canine Research Award. He has authored or co-authored over 150 manuscripts in the areas of canine and feline gastroenterology, has contributed over 60 textbook chapters, and has lectured extensively worldwide.

Dr. Woojin Song earned his DVM in 2013 and PhD in small animal internal medicine in 2019 from Seoul National University. He has been a faculty member at Jeju National University College of Veterinary Medicine since 2020. Dr. Song currently leads the internal medicine service for dogs and cats at the Jeju University Veterinary Teaching Hospital and serves as a board member of the Korean Association of Veterinary Cardiology. His clinical and research interests include canine and feline cardiology, nephrology, and regenerative medicine, particularly stem cell therapy. He is committed to sharing clinical knowledge and case experiences with veterinary practitioners through active engagement in conferences and educational outreach, and he integrates those real-world insights into his teaching for veterinary students.

Dr. Sato graduated from Iwate University and began his career in a small animal practice in Tokyo, where he worked for two years. Driven by a passion for advancing veterinary medicine, he returned to the University of Tokyo to pursue a PhD in small animal oncology. After completing his doctorate, Dr. Sato embarked on a postdoctoral fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, gaining valuable research experience.
He then moved to Colorado State University, where he completed a residency in small animal internal medicine, further honing his clinical skills. In 2018, Dr. Sato achieved board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Following his residency, he joined the Veterinary Medical Center at t
he University of Tokyo as a project associate professor, where he contributed to academic and clinical advancements. Currently, Dr. Sato serves as the chief of Internal Medicine Service at the Veterinary Specialists Emergency Center, one of Japan's largest referral animal hospitals.
His professional interests encompass a diverse range of fields, includeng feline medicine, endocrinology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, and nephrology..

Dr. Asano has been affiliated with Nihon University since 1999, initially serving as an Assistant Professor. In 2009, he became a charter diplomate of the Japanese College of Veterinary Surgeons (JCVS). Since 2015, Dr. Asano has held the position of Professor of Veterinary Surgery at Nihon University, where he is actively involved in teaching, clinical research, and practice at the university hospital.
Dr. Asano supervises a laboratory that includes five graduate students and 56 clinical trainees from private animal hospitals. His primary focus lies in small animal soft tissue surgery, with particular expertise in surgical oncology, including procedures for hepatic, adrenal, gastrointestinal, pancreatic, prostatic, and intrathoracic tumors. Additionally, he has extensive experience in endoscopic surgery and interventional radiology, such as percutaneous transvenous coil embolization and transarterial chemoembolization.
Dr. Asano performs approximately 250 surgical cases annually and has authored a total of 85 scientific publications to date.

Rachel Korman is a recognized specialist in feline medicine graduating from the University of Queensland. She worked in general practice in both Australia and the United Kingdom before completing a residency in feline internal medicine at the University of Bristol, UK. She became a recognized specialist in feline medicine in 2018. She is a Fellow of the Feline Medicine Chapter of the Australia New Zealand College of Veterinary Science, president of the Feline Medicine Chapter and clinical lead tutor for the Centre for Veterinary Education Feline Medicine Distance Education Course for the University of Sydney. Rachel’s interests are feline endocrinology, nephrology, infectious disease and haematology.

Rachel is director of Cat Specialist Services, a cat only multidisciplinary specialist referral hospital in Brisbane, Australia. She is ringmaster of 2 children, 3 cats and a chihuahua.

Dr. Kuo grew up in Taiwan and graduated from the University of Melbourne in Australia. After working in a multi-veterinarian practice in Tasmania, Australia, for 2 years, she then completed a rotating internship at the Mississippi State University in the US. She grew a passion for feline medicine. Since then, she had worked in general practices, emergency animal hospitals as well as feline only practices in both Taiwan and Australia. She gained her qualification of Membership of Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) in Medicine of Cats in 2018 and became a Diplomate of American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Feline Practice in 2023. She is now practicing as a feline specialist at Prince Cat Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.
Dr. Kuo’s professional interests include feline medicine, ultrasound, cardiology and emergency. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, yoga and spending time with her family and their pets.

Dr. Meng Li is an accomplished veterinarian and public health professional with a diverse academic and clinical background. She earned both her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees from the University of Minnesota, USA. Building on a strong clinical foundation, Dr. Li completed a rotating internship at Auburn University, gaining valuable experience in oncology, internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care.
Currently, Dr. Li serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Science at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU). She teaches courses in veterinary dentistry, small animal medicine, and surgery, with a commitment to teaching excellence that has been recognized through multiple awards.
Dr. Li’s research focuses on oncolytic virology and veterinary anesthesia, with several recent publications addressing advancements in veterinary anesthesia and tumor biology. Beyond her academic achievements, she has been awarded numerous grants, including national and institutional research funds, and has led several clinical trial projects.
In addition to her teaching and research contributions, Dr. Li holds key leadership positions, including her role as Vice Director of the Veterinary Oncology Specialty Committee within the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Li’s work exemplifies her dedication to advancing veterinary science and improving animal health.

Dr. Sirilak Disatian Surachetpong obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with First Class Honors from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand in 2002. She continued her academic journey by earning both a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Clinical Sciences from Colorado State University, USA in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Following her doctoral studies, she further honed her expertise through a postdoctoral fellowship at Colorado State University from 2008-2009. Dr. Surachetpong is renowned for her expertise and has achieved recognition as a diplomate of the Thai Board of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, she has been invited to serve as a specialist by the Asian College of Veterinary Internal Medicine for Companion Animals.

Dr. Surachetpong is currently a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. She teaches cardiology and medicine. She is also a deputy director of academic affairs of Chulalongkorn Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital and a head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine. She serves as the president of the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society of Thailand. She has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals. Her research interest is the cardiopulmonary diseases in dogs and cats.

Dan Lewis received his DVM from the University of California, Davis in 1983. He completed an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Louisiana State University in 1984 and a Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Florida in 1987. Dr. Lewis spent a year as the Surgical Registrar at Sydney University before returning to Louisiana State University in 1988 as an Assistant Professor. In 1993, he returned to the University of Florida where he has ascended to his current rank as a Professor of Small Animal Surgery and was subsequently named the Jerry and Lola Collins Eminent Scholar in Canine Sports Medicine and Comparative Orthopedics. Dr. Lewis is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, a Founding Fellow in Minimal Invasive Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery, a former President of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society, the recipient of the 2012 World Small Animal Veterinary Association-Hill’s Pet Mobility Award. He was named a University of Florida Foundation Research Professor in 2016, was the recipient of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society's Steve Fox Life Time Achievement Award in 2024 and was admitted as an Honorary Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2024. Dr. Lewis has authored or co-authored over 225 peer-reviewed publications. His special interests include musculoskeletal traumatology, minimally invasive fracture management and reconstructive orthopedic surgery with a focus on the utilization of circular and hybrid external skeletal fixation for fracture stabilization, deformity correction and limb salvage procedures. In addition, Dr. Lewis has most recently embraced the use of virtual surgical planning and 3D printing in complex orthopedic procedures.

He completed two residency training programs at The Ohio State University, USA, and has certified by ACVR in 2007 and by ACVIM in 2009. His area of research includes radiation therapy for treatment of canine lymphoma, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and others.

Dr. Thamm is the Barbara Cox Anthony Professor of Oncology and Director of Clinical Research at the Colorado State University Flint Animal Cancer Center. He has authored over 195 peer-reviewed publications and 25 book chapters in veterinary and basic cancer research, is Co-Editor for the most recent edition of the textbook Withrow and MacEwen’s Small Animal Clinical Oncology, and is Editor-In-Chief of the journal Veterinary and Comparative Oncology. Dr. Thamm is the President of the Veterinary Cancer Society and the 2023 recipient of the Alan Kelly International Prize in Canine Health from The Kennel Club.

Dr. Jiwoong Her is an associate professor in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care, and Nephrology at North Carolina State University. He earned his DVM from Chungnam National University in South Korea and completed evaluated clinical experience at Louisiana State University. After an ECC internship at Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center, Dr. Her completed a master’s degree and residency in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care at Auburn University in 2020. He then served as an Assistant Professor of Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care at the Ohio State University before joining NCSU in 2024. During his time at the OSU, he completed a fellowship in Extracorporeal Therapies and began a residency in the American College of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology. His clinical interests focus on extracorporeal therapies, kidney disease, fluid therapy, oxygenation, and ventilation. His scholarly interests center on advancing the diagnosis and treatment of critical conditions, including sepsis, respiratory diseases, and kidney diseases in dogs and cats.

Dr. Shinichi Kanazono received his veterinary degree from the Iwate University, Japan in 2004. After spending 3 years in a referral-based private practice in Tokyo, he gained further experience working as a postdoctoral research fellow at Comparative Neurology Lab in University of Missouri for the next 3 years. He completed a residency in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery in 2013 at University of Missouri. Kanazono then returned to Japan where he served as the Chief of Neurology & Neurosurgery Service at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center. Dr. Jane Armstrong is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College in Canada. After pursuing advanced clinical and research training at the University of Illinois and Michigan State University, she joined the veterinary clinical faculty at North Carolina State University. She later became a faculty member in the Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department, University of Minnesota concurrently completing a Master of Business Administration at the Carlson School of Management and serving as Interim Department Head. Her research interests focus on clinical nutrition, especially in gastrointestinal disorders. She has authored over 140 refereed publications and book chapters, served on numerous review and advisory panels and lectured extensively internationally. Dr. Armstrong holds board certification in the ACVIM, served 3 terms on the Board of Regents of that organization, and is a co-author on the ACVIM 2021 Consensus Statement on Feline Pancreatitis. She just completed 4 years as Chair of the Continuing Education Committee of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA).

Geraldine graduated from the Vet School of Alfort (France) in 1994, defended her PhD on Lipoprotein metabolism and Hepatic Lipidosis in Cats and holds board certification in the European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition (ECVCN) in 2002. She was president of this college 2010-2013.
Dr Géraldine Blanchard run a specialist consultation in veterinary nutrition (currently in Biarritz, France), and has been a consultant for the petfood industry worldwide.
Until 2006, she developed Clinical Nutrition at the Vet School of Alfort as associate Professor, and moved to Australia (UQ, St Lucia, QLD) in 2007, as Senior Lecturer in Nutrition.
Back to France, she launched in 2008 an online nutrition service cuisine-a-crocs.com. The site now offers balanced tailored recipes for dogs and cats for more than 140 situations (healthy and one disease or more) from Geraldine's logarithms (including home-made-diets, mixed diets or commercial pet food, and treats), in French and English.
In order to balance the mixed diets and the home cooked diets for dogs and cats, she launched a range of mineral vitamin supplements, Vit’i5, on the European market since 2008, and Australia since 2019.
Author and co-author of countless continuing education resources, books and book chapters, as well as original research on clinical nutrition, Dr Géraldine Blanchard is a renowned international resource within animal nutrition.

She has been Director of Academic Affairs at Hill’s Pet Nutrition Europe from 2011-2018. Dr. Becvarova became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN) in July 2007. She has been a Clinical Instructor and Clinical Assistant Professor – Veterinary Nutrition at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) from 2006-2011. Nick Cave graduated from Massey University (NZ) in 1990 and worked in general practice for 6 years until 1997, when he returned to Massey for a residency in small animal internal medicine, and graduated with a Master’s in Veterinary Science in 2000. In 2004 he moved to the University of California, Davis, where he attained a PhD in nutrition and immunology. At the same time, he completed a residency in small animal clinical nutrition and became a diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in 2004. In 2005, he returned to Massey University, where he was Associate Professor in small animal medicine and nutrition until this year, when he escaped academia to return to private practice and consulting. He was a founding member of the WSAVA Global Nutrition Committee and is a founding board member for the Massey University Centre for Working Dogs. He has served on numerous editorial boards, is an associate editor for Frontiers in Veterinary Science, has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed articles, several textbook chapters, and is a frequent commentator in public media.

Dr. Oh Won-seok graduated from Kyungpook National University, College of Vet. Medicine. He inherited the family business from his father, Dr. Oh Gyu-sil, who opened Dr’Oh Large Animal Hospital in 1973. Since 1997, Dr. Oh Won-seok has been operating Dr.Oh’s Small Animal Hospital. He earned a master's degree in Vet. Pathology (2003) and a doctorate in Vet. Internal Medicine and Dermatology (2007) from Kyungpook National University. He also completed further studies at the University of Queensland, Australia, under the guidance of Dr. Jacqui Rand (ACVIM, USA), Dr. Jane Armstrong (Past President of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine), and Dr. Geraldine Blanchard (Specialist in Vet. Nutrition, Europe), where he focused on clinical nutrition, disease genetics, obesity, and diabetes.
In 2008, Dr. Oh obtained certification as a pathologist from the Korean Society of Veterinary Pathology. He is also a qualified animal-assisted therapist, with a strong interest in animal-assisted therapy research. For the past 18 years, he has served as an academic technology advisor for Hill’s Pet Nutrition Korea, SungBo Science Tech. Co. Ltd., and Neodin Vet Lab Co. Ltd., the latter providing diagnostic pathology services to approximately 4,000 veterinary hospitals in Korea. He also worked as a consultant for the Veterinary Clinical Consulting System (VCS) hosted by the Korea Veterinary Clinical Education Institute.
Dr. Oh has actively contributed to various academic platforms. He was an academic committee member and special lecturer at the 2011 World Small Animal Veterinary Congress in Jeju, delivering lectures alongside renowned experts in clinical nutrition, including Dr. Jane Armstrong (USA) and Dr. Claudia Kirk (USA). He also participated in the 2017 World Veterinary Congress in Incheon, working with global leaders in clinical nutrition, such as Dr. Geraldine Blanchard (France) and Dr. Andrea Fascetti (USA).
Up to 2024, Dr. Oh continues to focus on veterinary dermatology, internal medicine, and clinical nutrition. His research emphasizes health promotion and disease management throughout the pet life cycle. His work encompasses diabetes and obesity, skin barrier recovery, treatment of elderly and chronic conditions, and long-term dietary management. He is currently a key researcher and advisor for veterinary policy projects under the Korean Veterinary Medical Association, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Korean Animal Hospital Association.
From 2017 to 2018, Dr. Oh was a visiting researcher at Seoul National University and taught 4veterinary nutrition as a part-time lecturer. Since 2019, he has continued to teach veterinary nutrition as a adjunct professor. In 2021, he began collaborating on research with the Seoul National University Veterinary Integrated Medical Research Center. In 2022, he earned the prestigious qualification as a Diplomat of Asian College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DAiCVIM).
Dr. Oh is dedicated to furthering research and education in veterinary medicine. He is actively involved in industry-academic research and contributes to the development of the Korean veterinary field in collaboration with the College of Veterinary Medicine, the pet industry, and the Korean Veterinary Medical Association. He works tirelessly to promote the global status of veterinary medicine in Korea.
