The Dr. Roger Clarke Memorial Lecture, delivered by Dr. Stanley Marks

FASAVA 2025 is honored to present the Dr. Roger Clarke Memorial Lecture in tribute to a pioneering Australian veterinarian whose lifelong commitment to continuing education has left an enduring legacy in the veterinary profession. This year, Dr. Stanley Marks will deliver the memorial lecture, whose meaningful and inspiring presentation will resonate with attendees and honor the spirit of Dr. Clarke’s contributions.

Bio
Dr. Stanley Marks graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He completed a small animal internal medicine residency at the University of Florida and an oncology residency at the University of California, Davis. Thereafter, Dr. Marks received his PhD degree in Nutrition from the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology. Dr. Marks is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in the subspecialties of internal medicine, oncology, and nutrition. He is the past President of the Comparative Gastroenterology Society and the Director of the Companion Animal Gastrointestinal Laboratory at UC Davis that focuses on furthering our understanding and knowledge of canine and feline infectious enteropathies. In addition, Dr. Marks has clinical and research interests in deglutology, with an emphasis on canine esophageal motility disorders and gastroesophageal reflux. Dr. Marks has received 10 faculty teaching awards at UC Davis during his career and was honored to be selected the Speaker of the Year at the NAVC Conference and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Convention. In addition, he is the recipient of the 2022 AVMA Career Achievement in Canine Research Award. He has authored or co-authored over 150 manuscripts in the areas of canine and feline gastroenterology, has contributed over 60 textbook chapters, and has lectured extensively worldwide.

Dr. Dong-In Jung graduated from the college of veterinary medicine, Gyeongsang National University (South Korea), in 2000, and gained a PhD in small animal internal medicine at the Konkuk University (South Korea) in 2008. Dr. Jung finished an internship and residency in small animal internal medicine at the Konkuk University (2003-2006). Dr. Jung appointed as the faculty (Assistant Professor) at Gyeongsang National University (2008), Jinju, South Korea. Now, Dr. Jung is a Full Professor (Tenured) at Gyeongsang National University.
Dr. Jung is a Diplomate of the Asian Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine (AiCVIM) and the Korean Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine (KCVIM).

Bio
Dr. Woojin Song earned his DVM in 2013 and PhD in small animal internal medicine in 2019 from Seoul National University. He has been a faculty member at Jeju National University College of Veterinary Medicine since 2020. Dr. Song currently leads the internal medicine service for dogs and cats at the Jeju University Veterinary Teaching Hospital and serves as a board member of the Korean Association of Veterinary Cardiology. His clinical and research interests include canine and feline cardiology, nephrology, and regenerative medicine, particularly stem cell therapy. He is committed to sharing clinical knowledge and case experiences with veterinary practitioners through active engagement in conferences and educational outreach, and he integrates those real-world insights into his teaching for veterinary students.
Masahiko Sato

Bio
Dr. Sato graduated from Iwate University and began his career in a small animal practice in Tokyo, where he worked for two years. Driven by a passion for advancing veterinary medicine, he returned to the University of Tokyo to pursue a PhD in small animal oncology. After completing his doctorate, Dr. Sato embarked on a postdoctoral fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, gaining valuable research experience.
He then moved to Colorado State University, where he completed a residency in small animal internal medicine, further honing his clinical skills. In 2018, Dr. Sato achieved board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Following his residency, he joined the Veterinary Medical Center at t
he University of Tokyo as a project associate professor, where he contributed to academic and clinical advancements. Currently, Dr. Sato serves as the chief of Internal Medicine Service at the Veterinary Specialists Emergency Center, one of Japan's largest referral animal hospitals.
His professional interests encompass a diverse range of fields, includeng feline medicine, endocrinology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, and nephrology..
